Covid-19 has been steadily in our lives for the past year and a half and researchers have focused their efforts on combating it, while technology is trying to assist medicine in every way. Since the beginning of the pandemic, several studies have tried to identify if wearables can recognize the early stages in patients with covid. The JAMA Network Open published an article stating that wearables, such as the Apple Watch and Fitbit, can flag data from long-term effects caused by Covid-19 on the human body.
The data came from 37,000 participants, who are users of Apple Watch, Fitbit or other wearables. The researchers collected and analyzed data from the wearables and compared them with symptoms described by the users, aiming for the highest accuracy in detecting Covid-19 cases.
The research concluded that after 9 days of a person getting infected with covid, their heartbeat slows down, which is not seen in patients with other diseases. Then, the pulse becomes more intense and remains in this state for a considerable length of time. On average, it takes about 79 days for the heart rate to return to normal levels, in a state of rest.
