The MagSafe Battery Pack has been released by Apple for all models of the iPhone 12 series, essentially representing the official powerbank for this series. With this accessory, rumors about the reverse wireless charging capability of iPhone 12 series are finally confirmed.
The way it works
The MagSafe Battery Pack relies on Apple’s MagSafe technology, which was introduced last year, with the iPhone 12 series. The MagSafe Battery Pack combines a series of NFC magnet technology, aiming for excellent application on the back of the device. Apple mentions the MagSafe Battery Pack is compatible with all devices that have version 14.7 of iOS or newer. The powerbank is charged with a Lightning cable, and it can simultaneously charge the iPhone during its own charging process. The company suggests using a 20 watt USB-C charger for faster charging times.
Reverse Wireless Charging
The company states that there is also a different way to charge the MagSafe Battery Pack, but it does not clearly outline the reverse wireless charging. However, it is clearly described that the user connects the iPhone with a Lightning cable, which charges the external battery through MagSafe technology.
Since 2019, rumors have been published about the iPhone 11 series, which could have had this feature, to charge AirPods or the Apple Watch through the iPhone device, but these were never confirmed. At the release of the iPhone 12 series, Apple once again did not officially announce anything about charging devices wirelessly, raising questions about the reasons the company did not make the announcement earlier, and whether it will keep this particular technology only for its own products.
