Based on information published by LeaksApplePro, the reduction of the iPhone 13’s notch is confirmed once again, with its official presentation expected on September 24th.
The iPhone 13 is expected to have a 0.99″ (26mm) wide notch, which is a significant reduction compared to the current 1.38″ (35mm) used by Apple to house the Face ID and earpiece since the release of the iPhone X.
The reduction exceeds 25% and is the first major design change on the front of the iPhone since the first notched iPhone was introduced in 2017. Apple achieved this reduction by integrating the earpiece into the top bezel, and housing four more Face ID components underneath. This allowed for a significant amount of space to be freed up in the middle, where the earpiece was located, thus allowing the Face ID Kit components to be placed closer together and leaving empty space on the side to create a more compact notch.
With a 25% notch reduction, there’s also a corresponding increase in the screen-to-body ratio. The iPhone SE 2020 is the latest model without a notch, with a screen-to-body ratio of 65%, as it has Touch ID Buttons and large bezels. With the iPhone X, however, Apple reaches over 80% screen-to-body ratio, as the iPhone 12‘s percentage reaches 86%.
Exact calculations for the iPhone 13 will confirm or deny whether Apple will be able to exceed the 88% ratio once it officially hits the market. To stay updated on all Apple news, visit the blog of TheFixers. We provide you with the latest releases and latest tech world news.
