Samsung has officially announced the definitive end of the iconic brand name Galaxy Note. In an announcement at the Mobile World Congress 2022, the company’s head of mobile telephony, Roh Tae-moon, stated that the features of the Galaxy Note will now be retained in the Galaxy S Ultra series, referring to the recent release of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Rumors have been around for a long time, as Samsung has not released a Galaxy Note device since 2020.
The first Galaxy Note was launched about a decade ago, specifically in October 2011. The huge for its time, 5.3-inch screen, caused a sensation and surpassed competing manufacturers. However, over time large-screen smartphones have become increasingly common, resulting in the series losing its original innovation. As the release of new models of the Galaxy S series continued, which has identical elements with the Note, the S-Pen stylus essentially constituted the main differentiation factor between them.
With the release of the Galaxy Note 7, problems were created in the series’ reputation, as Samsung had to stop its production due to defects in the device’s batteries.
What we are seeing now is basically the convergence of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series, into a new brand name, the Galaxy S Ultra. Moreover, in the Galaxy S22 Ultra one can easily see the legacy of the Note just by looking at its sharp design. With the combination of these two brand names, it seems that Samsung will remain a leader in large-size smartphones for a long time.
