The Apple M1 iMacs have already started being delivered to their owners. Just before their official release, the first benchmarks were posted on Geekbench by reviewers who have started running tests.

The first indications show a powerful processor, with the Apple M1 iMac competing with the benchmarks of the Apple M1 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini. Their score is 1724 on a single core and 7453 on multiple ones. The benchmarks are for the iMac 21,1 which is basically a model that comes with an 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and two Thunderbolt ports.

We note that the Apple M1 iMac 24’’ clearly surpasses the 2019 21.5-inch iMac with the Intel processor. It, therefore, constitutes a very good choice for those considering upgrading their equipment. We note that the score of the previous generation iMac 21.5 inches was 1109 on a single core and 6014 on multiple cores. Thus, comparatively the Apple M1 iMac is 56% faster in single-core performance and 24% faster in multiple cores.

Compared to the iMac 27’’, the M1 iMac while superior in single-core performance, lags in multiple cores and the 10th generation Comet Lake Intel processor, which scores 9002. On the contrary, it outperforms the basic model of the 27-inch iMac with Intel processor and 6 cores. So, we can’t currently consider the Apple M1 iMac a replacement for the high-end 27-inch iMac, but it doesn’t rule out Apple quickly launching its successor.
