The news that Apple will not include the charger in the basic packaging of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, was released a few months before the official launch of the new iPhone series in the market. The reason the company no longer provides chargers for new models is because it wants to reduce its environmental footprint. Most users who upgraded their device from iPhone 11 to iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro, already had a charger.
Although the global market accepted the removal of the charger from the iPhone packaging, Brazil made its difference. The Consumer Protection Authority in Brazil (Procon-SP), did not consider the action to protect the environment satisfactory and after demanding proof, then forced Apple to include a charger with every iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 12 Pro sale.
Thus, Apple in that market will have to include the charger in the basic packaging, otherwise, to avoid paying a fine, which will increase every day without the application of the rules. For now, the forced sale of a charger with every Apple device will only be implemented in Brazil. However, it is not ruled out that precedent could change the retail sales method in other countries as well.
