On Tuesday night, September 14, Apple held its annual event online to present its new products. At the event, the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, referred to the new data of the Apple TV+ subscription platform and presented the new iPad 15 & Mini, as well as the Apple Watch 7. Of course, the highlight of the evening was the official reveal of the new iPhone models in the 13 series.
According to Tim Cook, the 13th version of the iPhone is the “best and most powerful iPhone of all time”. This statement is heard every year at the presentation of the new models, however, it remains true each year. The new series consists of the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The exterior design of the new models does not differ significantly from their predecessor, maintaining the flat frame of aerospace technology aluminum with a flawless finish and Ceramic Shield protection. The shades in which they are released are more vibrant than previous models, while the notch on the screens of the iPhone 13 is 20% smaller in size -according to company data- in order to support the Face ID technology and the front camera.
Despite the external similarity to previous models, the major changes are found inside the iPhone 13. The 6-core A15 Bionic processor includes 15 billion individual semiconductors, giving the iPhone 13 the impressive ability to perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. Also, great emphasis was placed on the improvement of still and moving image capture capabilities, equipping the new models with two 12 Megapixel resolution cameras with an integrated image stabilization system, as the iPhone 12 Pro Max also had. In addition, the Cinematic feature has been added to video capture, with the result meeting the needs and requirements of professional video shooting.
The A15 Bionic processor is more energy efficient and, combined with the increased capacity battery, allows the iPhone 13 to have 1.5 hours of increased battery life for the Mini model and 2.5 hours for the basic model.
The iPhone 13 Max and iPhone 13 Max Pro feature impressive improvements with an entirely new triple camera system. The combination of the 77mm telephoto lens with a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens allows Apple to claim unparalleled image capture capabilities from its new models. In addition, all cameras have night capture enhancement, which optimizes the quality of shooting and photos, even in low light conditions. Finally, the new models are equipped with the Pro Motion system which can smooth moving images, eliminating pixelation in videos. The iPhone 13 Max and iPhone 13 Max Pro meet the needs of professional filmmakers, so Apple made sure to make available the option of 1 Terabyte data storage capacity.
The company, proving its sensitivity on environmental protection issues, reported that it applied recycled materials to produce the iPhone 13 Max and iPhone 13 Max Pro, saving 600 tons of plastics.
The cost of the new models, contrary to the rumors that had circulated, did not increase dramatically, with buyers in the US being able to acquire the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini from $699 and the iPhone 13 Pro from $999. However, the cost in the Greek market has yet to be announced.
