Apple is preparing to release a significant update for iPhone users that will simplify the process of sending their device for repair without the need to disable Find My and Activation Lock. In the latest beta version of iOS 17.5, analysts from 9to5Mac and MacRumors discovered the addition of a new feature called “Repair Status”. This function keeps your device’s anti-theft measures active during the repair.
Traditionally, Apple and its authorized service providers require disabling of Find My to prevent the usage of the device by third parties without the owner’s knowledge. However, with the addition of stolen device protection, the process of disabling Find My has become more complex, requiring one hour of waiting before certain actions are undertaken.
The new “Repair Status” function will change this issue, allowing users to confirm via their Apple ID and password that the phone is undergoing repair, without the need to deactivate anti-theft measures. This allows the tracking of the device from other connected devices, providing security and peace of mind to users.
