Samsung is undoubtedly the leader in the creation of foldable mobile phones, with a foldable screen and they even reduced their prices the second time around. However, this does not deter Apple, who wishes to get a share of this particular market. It is even heard that the company has been trying for some time to create a device on the lines of Samsung, with a folding screen.
Even though there hasn’t been yet an official statement on the issue, there are reports that suggests there will be a model with a foldable screen from Apple, with the name “iPhone Flip”. So far however, no one has attempted to present the design of the folding iPhone. This has now changed as Concepts iPhone posted a video presenting a potential version of iPhone Flip, although this doesn’t constitute an official presentation.
In this particular video appears a smartphone with clamshell design, like Galaxy’s Z Flip 3 from Samsung, which was released last month. The frame appears to be made of stainless steel with curves and the metal body of the “iPhone Flip” looks quite similar to the iPhone 12 Pro that was released the previous year, with the main difference being that it folds in the middle. Overall, the design remains the same, regarding the positioning of the antenna line, lightning port, earpiece, speakers, power and volume control buttons, and even the mute buttons.
The major difference of this hypothetical “iPhone Flip” compared to the current iPhone models, is the size of the notch, something which is also speculated for iPhone 13. Also, there’s mention that the folding screen could feature a 120Hz Pro Motion Liquid Retina XDR display. There is also the possibility of it being powered by Apple’s M1 chipset, which is already used in iPad Pro.
Given that the usage of masks makes it exceedingly difficult to operate Face ID, there’s a potentiality of “iPhone Flip” featuring a second method of recognition based on biometric data, like Touch ID. Lastly, it is rumoured that “iPhone Flip” will include wireless charging technology and that the available colours will be Silver, Tangerine, Rose Gold and Product RED.
Of course, all these are just assumptions, as Apple hasn’t officially publicised its plans for a foldable smartphone release. We are thus on standby, waiting to see which of these assumptions will come true and which ones will be debunked.
