From the beginning of the internet, humanity tries to escape from reality. With every new technology comes another medium to immerse ourselves in cyberspace, temporarily freeing us from our daily lives. As the metaverse begins to become a part of the lives of more and more people, the line between real life and the virtual world seems to blur daily.

Facebook (now Meta) has already announced the creation of a metaverse. The project is said to be worth billions of dollars and will technically be linked to Oculus technology, which also belongs to Facebook. It will include a copy of our world along with all the social details, including business meetings, concerts, shopping malls, etc.

In October, Meta announced the change of its name from its old name, Facebook. Then, the company said that it would spend approximately 10 billion dollars (8.8 billion euros) next year developing technologies to build the metaverse. “Our hope is that within the next decade, the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers,” Zuckerberg wrote in October.

Meta gave access to its virtual reality platform to users over 18 years old in the United States and Canada after more than a year in beta. It is the first attempt to release a product since Facebook was renamed Meta, and it aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision for the “metaverse”.

The idea seems to be similar to the movie Ready Player One: The app allows users to create their own worlds and mini-games. Users can create a VR avatar and interact with other avatars. It also allows you to hang out with up to 20 people in the virtual space and is free for players using Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 system.

Are you curious about the metaverse? Do you plan to try it when it becomes available in Europe?
