In the autumn of 2022, we are expected to have a new 6th generation iPad Pro with M2 chipset, according to Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg analyst. Although at this year’s Peek Performance Event the company unveiled amongst other things the new iPad Air, there was no word about the iPad Pro series, despite the strong rumors about it.
As Gurman announced in his Power On newsletter, Apple is expected to provide support for MagSafe wireless charging for the new generation of iPads, which we also find in the iPhone 12 and 13, and Apple Silicon support.
In contrast with the new iPad Air and the iPad Pro 2021 that feature an M1 processor, here we are expected to see an M2 chipset. Although Apple has not yet confirmed this, Gurman claims the CPU will be slightly faster than the M1 and will be based on the same eight-core architecture. At the same time, it is expected to be more efficient, with improved energy performance thanks to TSMC’s 4-nanometer process. It is also said that it will have more GPU cores. As for memory and storage capacity, based on previous iPad Pro models, it is certain that we will see similar numbers, that is from 128GB to 1TB.
Regarding its design, it is rumored that the new generation iPad will look a lot like its predecessor. Although initially it was said to feature a glass back, it is more likely to be made of titanium alloy and have thinner screen frames. Otherwise, we certainly expect to see flat edges and the classic Notch at the top of the screen. At the same time, there’s talk of an additional camera lens, maybe even a triple rear camera with a LiDAR sensor, a clear upgrade from the existing models.
So far, there have been many conflicting reports about the screen size. Some rumors claim that both versions, one at 12.9 inches and the other at 11 inches, will have OLED LTPO screens with ProMotion technology.
Apple typically organizes product presentation events from September to November, so we expect the official announcement of the new generation iPad Pro during this period of 2022.
