A few days ago, Samsung’s new series of smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 5 & 5 Pro, were launched. These two new smartwatches, which have already received their first software update, pleasantly surprised us with their performance and innovative appearance.
Let’s firstly discuss their design. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a more modern design, fitting better with the design of Wear OS and other contemporary digital smart devices, such as Galaxy S smartphones and TWS earbuds.
In contrast to other Galaxy Watches, there is no rotating bezel. Instead, we see a digital ring in the frame of the screen. This “sacrifice” is due to the increased battery capacity, which was made possible by its removal.
This series focuses on health, fitness, and of course, appearance. The Galaxy Watch 5 will be released in two versions, 40mm and 42mm, while the 5 Pro will be released in 45mm. Their screens are equipped with Sapphire Crystal, offering 60% greater durability, and have 5ATM and IP68 water resistance. Specifically, the 5 Pro has a larger battery than the others at 590Mah, while the other models have 284mAh for the 40mm and 410mAh for the 44mm. With quick charging of 8 minutes, they can last up to 8 hours.
Inside, all three have an Exynos W920 processor, 16GB storage, and 1.5GB RAM. They have GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, as well as a compass, barometer, temperature sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, and light sensors. They support LTE, Bluetooth 5.2, WIFI, and NFC.
The 40mm model comes in Graphite, Silver, Pink Gold colors and costs 300€, the 44mm in Graphite, Silver, Sapphire colors and costs 320€, while the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro costs €470 for the basic model in Black Titanium and Gray Titanium colors, and the price for the LTE version reaches 520€.
Generally, they are compatible with all Android devices running software 8.0 or newer, with at least 1.56Gb RAM. However, some features such as the ECG, blood pressure monitoring, AR Emoji on the watch faces, mobile camera control, Do Not Disturb, Samsung messages, and Bedtime mode are only available when connected with Samsung devices.
