Are you perhaps worried about the lifespan of your mobile phone’s battery? The truth is that the smartphone battery plays a crucial role in our daily lives, especially in today’s era where everything is done through mobile phones.
In this article, you will read some tips to increase the lifespan of your mobile battery, and we will also clarify some questions about its operation.
Purchase and… mobile charging
Older types of nickel-cadmium batteries had a “memory effect”. Batteries maintained a capacity based on how much they had been charged and discharged. For this reason, the mobile phones had instructions to charge for many hours before the first use. However, with modern lithium-ion batteries, most agree that there is no such reason. A smartphone can work normally as soon as you take it out of the box, without requiring charging.
What happens to the battery over time
Modern lithium-ion batteries are designed to withstand a certain number of “cycles”. As Apple states: “You can use 75% of the battery one day and then charge it fully overnight. If you use 25% the next day, you will have used a total of 100% in two days, ending up in one charge cycle. Battery life varies between devices, but they typically last between 300 and 500 full cycles before they reach 70% of their original capacity – equivalent to one-two years of usage.”
Charging all night…
It used to be thought that charging the mobile all night could “ruin” the battery, as it receives more power than it needs. Modern battery systems, however, are specifically designed so that there is no damage or alteration of their operation in case of “overloading”.
Should I wait for the battery to reach…1% to charge?
Modern lithium-ion batteries gain nothing by being completely drained. Large charging cycles harm the “health” of the battery more than short charges. It is therefore preferable to charge your battery when it is at 50% rather than when it has completely run out.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth no longer drain as much battery. The sure thing though is that it is better to connect with Wi-Fi. When you use 4G or 3G, the battery drains much faster.
Useful tips
To increase the lifespan of your mobile battery:
