Challenge for Apple, the wireless reverse charging on iPhone devices

Apple continues its effort to offer iPhone users the ability for total wireless reverse charging.

Information reports that the tech giant had calculated to offer wireless reverse charging with the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro, but engineers did not manage to complete the project in time. Now, this is one of Apple’s priorities and is expected to be “packaged” with related software optimizations.

Once such a feature is incorporated into future iPhones, users will not only be able to charge their phones but also provide charging to other gadgets, such as AirPods, through them.

According to the same information, Apple develops unique “wireless power supply” firmware as the basis for the bilateral wireless charging capability. The work on this firmware is a principal aspect of the ongoing tests and the development of the hardware for the reverse wireless charging.

Charging speeds

Another critical aspect of the project is the management of charging speeds between the iPhone and the other device, including heat dissipation and charging efficiency.

Apple is also developing a special user interface for reverse wireless charging, similar to the one used today for chargers and MagSafe accessories. This will include a moving image on the screen as well as a sound effect indicating the start of bilateral wireless charging.

Finally, the same sources underline that reverse wireless charging could ultimately get delayed again or may not be implemented at all. The feature has been in the works since at least the iPhone 11 and has proven to be a significant challenge, due to concerns about heat management and charging speeds.
