The predictions for a fourth-generation version of the iPhone SE have been evolving since the release of the recent model in 2022. Let’s take a stock of the available elements circulating about the device, including the predicted features and the possible launch date.
The latest claim comes from Dae-Jeong Yoon, an analyst at UBI Research, who recently stated that the start of mass production of the fourth-generation iPhone SE has been postponed until 2025, according to the Korean newspaper The Elec. Other sources confirm this prediction for a release in 2025, including well-known analysts Ming-Chi Kuo, Jeff Pu, and Blayne Curtis.
In April, Kuo suggested that the next iPhone SE would feature a 5G modem designed by Apple and would appear with a design similar to that of the iPhone 14, implying that the device will carry a 6.1-inch OLED screen, Face ID and flat sides. However, with the postponement of the release, some changes may be made to Apple’s plans.
It is known that Apple has plans for its own modem since 2018 and acquired the largest share of Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019 to boost these efforts. So far, it seems that the modem will not be ready before 2025, and all iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models will continue to use Qualcomm’s modems.
Today’s iPhone SE was released in March 2022 and features a 4.7-inch LCD screen, Touch ID, 5G, a main 12-megapixel camera, and the A15 Bionic chipset. With prices starting at $429 in the US, it is the most affordable iPhone model in Apple’s range.
