At Apple’s huge event, Wonderlust, the brand-new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could not be missing, the new flagship models of the American company brings many critical changes along with them.
Starting with the screen, even this year’s basic iPhone 15 models include dynamic island. This is a significant feature that first appeared in last year’s iPhone 14 Pro, allowing the “notch” to adjust based on the situation and the notifications. So, instead of the bulky “notch” of the iPhone 14, a more discreet one now takes up space at the top of the screen. Significantly, despite the existence of the dynamic island, their screens do not have Always-On technology.
In terms of screens, the new iPhones have a Super Retina XDR panel with thinner bezels. Additionally, their brightness has dramatically increased compared to last year, reaching 1600 nits for HDR video playback, with 2000 nits being the maximum limit. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen. The devices are made of aluminum, with more rounded edges for a better and more comfortable hand feel. Their front “Ceramic Shield” glass is extremely durable. The new iPhones will be available in five colors: pink, black, yellow, lime, and aqua. They will also be released with pre-installed iOS 17.
One of the most significant innovative features compared to last year is the incorporation of the USB-C port. The iPhones are officially abandoning the Lightning port and moving on to adopting USB-C for charging, data transfer, and sound. Apple plans to renew all related peripherals, including headphones and chargers, starting from the Pro version of AirPods.
As for the camera, the main sensor on the back of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus is a 48-megapixel lens with an aperture of f/1.6, while there is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. The evolution from the previous iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models is impressive, as previous models had 12MP sensors in both the main camera and the ultra-wide lens.
Apple has also developed a technology that exploits the 12MP cores of the main camera to deliver 2x optical zoom. In practice, this is as if a third 2x telephoto sensor is present in the camera system. Additionally, the company promises improved portraits, with smart HDR achieving the perfect balance between light and detail, improved shots during the night, and many other innovations thanks to the Photonic Engine.
Regarding performance, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus adopt the extremely powerful A16 Bionic processor, which is the same one used by last year’s Pro models. It’s a 5nm processor with 6 CPU cores and a unique 5-core GPU designed by Apple, along with special hardware for photo and video recording.
Of course, a more efficient processor means longer battery life, with Apple promising that the basic iPhone 15 can last a full day, while the iPhone 15 Plus has an even larger battery compared to its predecessor version.
As for wireless connectivity, the company has embedded a new Ultra Wideband chip of the new generation, which enables, for example, two iPhone users to find each other with high accuracy in a crowded space. 5G technology is also supported, and calls will be better than ever, with a learning model for better call quality with less noise. Apple has also improved SOS calls via satellite and is preparing a new feature that allows drivers to call for help in isolated areas without a signal.
About the pricing of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in the American market, they will remain at the same levels as their predecessor. Specifically:
The iPhone 15 will cost from $799.
The iPhone 15 Plus will start from $899.
Release Date for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus is September 22, 2023.
