Apple recently broke its silence regarding innovations in artificial intelligence that will be incorporated into the iPhone, announcing impressive news. According to leaks, the company’s recently developed AI models are expected to operate locally on Apple’s devices, allowing advanced functions with increased efficiency.

Researchers from Apple’s OpenELM (Open-source Efficient Language Models) team presented four new language models, designed to undertake tasks such as composing emails. These models are available as open source, offering developers the opportunity to use them immediately.

The parameters of the models vary, with each understanding a different number of variables that allow it to make decisions. The parameters range from 270 million to 3 billion, making the models more cost-effective in management and optimized for local use on devices such as phones and laptops.

Compared to Microsoft’s Phi-3 model with 3.8 billion parameters and Google’s Gemma with 2 billion, Apple’s new models seem to offer a balanced approach between quality and cost.
