The FDA gave its approval for the operation of Hearing Aid on AirPods Pro 2 a few weeks ago, and now also certifies the ability to detect sleep apnea on Apple Watch.
This new feature is available on the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2. The Apple Watch Series 10 has been available since September 20th, while the feature is incorporated into watchOS 11, which has been available since September 17th.
To detect sleep apnea, sleep monitoring data is required from ten nights within a 30-day period. In addition to detecting sleep apnea, it also provides information on other sleep disorders.
If the Apple Watch detects signs that indicate possible sleep apnea, it will alert you to seek an official medical diagnosis. Sleep apnea causes shallow or interrupted breathing during sleep and can lead to insomnia, headaches, daytime sleepiness, and other effects.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has already received FDA approval for sleep apnea detection feature on Galaxy Watch earlier this year.
