Apart from improvements to Apple Intelligence, iOS 18 brings many new features that are not based on artificial intelligence and will be available to iPhone users this year.
In iOS 18, you can lock apps so they require Face ID or a passcode to open. You can also hide apps so they don’t appear on the home screen. The new version of iOS also allows the customization of app icons on the home screen, with the ability to move them or choose a color theme. In addition, you can schedule the sending of messages with the “Send Later” feature and there is support for RCS messages.
One of the most significant new features of iOS 18 is that you can open any app from the lock screen. Apple allows the customization of lock screen shortcuts, replacing the current shortcuts for the flashlight and camera. Thus, you will be able to run any app without having to unlock your iPhone.
To install the iOS 18 beta and set up this feature, press and hold the lock screen and select the blue “Customize” button. Then, tap the “Lock Screen” option. You will see two “-” buttons, one next to the icon at the bottom left and one next to the icon at the bottom right. Press the button next to the icon you want to replace and then press the “+” button. Select “Open Application” and choose the app you want to open from the lock screen. Press “Done” to save the changes.
