Apple is planning to introduce significant innovations to Safari within the current year, providing a smarter and safer browsing experience. With the integration of artificial intelligence, the next version of Safari, which is expected to be released with iOS 18, is designed to radically change the way users interact with the internet.
During Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, the new feature, Smart Search, is expected to be presented. Using artificial intelligence directly on the device (on device), the feature will be able to recognize and summarize topics and keyword phrases on the websites you visit, providing a more focused and personalized browsing experience.
Apple claims that this new feature will compete with platforms like ChatGPT, offering a security advantage due to the fact that all processing is done locally, on the device.
Additionally, Apple is introducing the Web Eraser feature, which will allow the removal of specific parts of websites – such as ads, images, or even entire sections – with relative ease. These changes will remain permanent in all connections, with Safari remembering user preferences even after closing the tab or window. Upon visiting a modified page, the user will be notified of the changes and will have the option to restore the page to its original state.
The updates to Safari don’t stop there. The next version will also include an upgraded user workspace with a new control menu, which offers easy access to a multitude of options such as zoom options, privacy tools, content blocking, text search on the page, as well as reading and extension functions. In addition, Apple is planning to integrate a more powerful visual search function next year, which will provide information on consumer products during image browsing, similar to Siri’s Visual Lookup function.
Although these capabilities are under development and may not all be released together, the anticipation for the new Safari is high. Apple once again demonstrates its commitment to providing innovative and secure technologies that enhance the user experience in the digital world.
