The iPhone 12 Upgrades: Welcome the 15W Wireless Charging

In a significant announcement that has attracted the attention of the tech community, it was revealed that Apple’s iPhone 12 series is now compatible with next-generation 15W wireless charging via the new Qi2 standard. This development, as reported by Macworld, lays the groundwork for a smoother and more efficient charging experience for users of these devices.

Qi2, designed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), is a significant upgrade to the previous charging standard and relies on Apple’s MagSafe technology. MagSafe, which was first introduced with the iPhone 12, enabled wireless charging at speeds up to 15W. However, users who chose to use chargers from other companies experienced reduced charging speeds at 7.5W.

With the introduction of Qi2, Apple extends the capability for 15W wireless charging to more users, regardless of the manufacturer of the charger they choose to use. This opens new avenues in wireless charging, providing greater flexibility and efficiency to users.

The integration of Qi2 technology into the iPhone 12 was not officially announced by Apple, but it appears to have already been made available with the software update iOS 17.4. This means that owners of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro can now take full advantage of the Qi2 wireless charging capability, even without the use of an official MagSafe charger.

This decision follows Apple’s initiative last year to unlock 15W charging speeds for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models, paving the way for more affordable and flexible wireless charging. With this latest move, Apple confirms its commitment to providing technological solutions that enhance the everyday use of its devices, making life easier for users with more efficient and user-friendly charging solutions.
