Apart from the updated MacBook Pro, Apple had a small surprise for the fans of Mac desktop computers in its presentation titled “Scary Fast”.
The anticipated 24-inch iMac gets significantly more power, thanks to Apple’s new integrated M3 processor. As announced at the recent event, this updated version will offer double speeds compared to its predecessor with the M1 SoC, even though a model with M2 has not been released yet. iMac owners with Intel processors planning to upgrade will find that the new model is up to 2.5 times faster compared to some versions of the 27-inch ones.
The M3 iMac is introduced with an eight-core processor and a ten-core GPU. The GPU cores support hardware acceleration for gaming technologies like mesh shading and ray tracing, making the new iMac ideal for gaming, as long as there is suitable support from game companies. Additionally, the new chipset includes a 16-core Neural Engine and support for up to 24GB of unified memory.
Apple claims that the new iMac with M3 offers up to 30% faster performance in the Safari browser and productivity applications like Microsoft’s Excel, compared to the 2021 model with M1. It is also emphasized that games will run with up to 50% faster fps. For video creation specialists, the ability to process and replay up to 12 streams of 4K video has tripled compared to the past. As for the other features, the new iMac remains loyal to the colorful design of the previous model, offering the same colors and a 4.5K Retina display.
In relation to pricing, Apple seems to try to keep prices competitive despite adding increased power. The base model of the M3 iMac starts at the same price as the previous M1 model, something expected to attract enthusiasm from customers.
