The announcement of watchOS 10, a significant upgrade for Apple Watch, was made during the WWDC 2023 event, marking a milestone for the functionality of Apple’s smartwatches. This upgrade completely changes the way a user interacts with their Apple Watch, bringing back the widgets for easier viewing. When we turn the digital crown, a stack of widgets appears, where we can scroll to find information easily from all applications. Traditional apps of Apple Watch, such as Weather, Home, Maps, Messages, Stocks, and World Clock, have been updated to provide users with a glance of information. Most third-party applications have also been upgraded to display information at a “glance”.
watchOS 10 also includes new features such as redesigned apps, new widget tabs, additional watch faces, biking and hiking functions, and mental health support tools. The upgrade offers a new design, simplified navigation, and uses the screen more for easily readable information. Smart Stack provides adaptive, environment-dependent information, while developers can update their apps using the new design language. The Control Center is accessible via the side button, and two new dials, the Palette, and Snoopy, bring vivid colors and interactive animations. For cyclists, watchOS 10 introduces advanced measurements and features.
watchOS 10 is expected to be available in the fall for the Apple Watch Series 4 and later models. This upgrade brings many improvements and new features for the user experience of Apple Watch.
The improvements Apple offers in watchOS 10 also concern the health sector, specifically the mental health of users. With watchOS 10, users can record their mood in the special Mindfulness app. This app collects data and gives an estimate if the user has excessive anxiety or is at risk of depression, through various quizzes and questions asked to the user during the day.
In watchOS 10, all watch faces now display widgets in Smart Stack, making their reading easier and more distinct. In addition, two new watch faces are added to watchOS 10. The Palette displays time with changing colors, while Snoopy offers interactive experiences with the characters of Snoopy and Woodstock.
