The iPhone 12 has been on the market for a few months but the scenarios for its successor have already started to multiply. Rumors have the company bringing back the old naming tactics of its models and so the next iPhone will be the iPhone 12S and not the iPhone 13.
The information suggests that the new Apple smartphone will be released in September 2021 without having significant differences from the iPhone 12. It is therefore an upgraded version of it that justifies the return of the characteristic “S” in its name.
As for the prejudices associated with number 13, which many consider jinxed, Apple has not shown any belief in them, in contrast to Microsoft, which surpassed this number and moved from the 12th version of Office to the 14th one.
According to sources, the new iPhone model is in the proofing stage at the Foxconn Shenzhen factory labs. There it has to pass the “tests” for both design and functionality followed by the respective enhancements and then mass production will start. This process takes about 9 months. Thus, it is incredibly unlikely to see their presentation before the fall.
Other sources, specifically the Japanese site Mac Otakara which cites information from a supply chain company, suggest that Apple will release four new iPhones in 2021, with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 having very minor variations. Finally, as for the rumor that wants all 2021 iPhone models, and not just the Pro series, to hit the market with LiDAR, all that is known is that Apple has made an agreement with Sony to ensure that it will not be used on the iPhone, at least not before 2023.
