The internet is an integral part of our daily life, whether it is for work or for information, shopping, and hobbies in our free time. As much as it facilitates our lives, it lurks dangers that come from external factors. Having multiple devices connected at home is possible that someone will try to gain access to them.
What can we do to minimize the likelihood of falling victim to cyber attack?
1. We protect our Wi–Fi router
Primary concern is to secure the router, as it is the gateway to which all devices are connected. From the router settings, we make sure to immediately change the password with a password with increased difficulty and not, for example, with our phone number.
We choose WPA2 or WPA3 if all devices can connect and update the router with the most recent firmware (if it doesn’t automatically update).
2. We protect the smart TV
These days most of us have smart TVs with multiple functions. Even if we haven’t bought a smart TV, we often upgrade the conventional one with external streaming devices. To protect the TV from a malicious attack, we need to carefully select the settings and check for possible software updates.
3. We protect the smartphone
The smartphones are used by everyone more than any other device, so their security is crucial. A good solution for mobile phone security is the endpoint which repels most threats. Also, it would be good to encrypt personal data that we have recorded on our mobile to prevent easy access to a malicious person.
4. We don’t leave traces on the internet
Our moves on the internet reveal a lot about our personality, so it would be good to encrypt these moves for maximum security of our connected devices. For this reason, we can create a virtual private network (VPN), which will allow us to move securely online. We recommend creating a separate VPN for each device.
5. We Update our devices Most of us ignore notifications to install the most recent version of our device, however, this is a very mistaken tactic. To adequately protect our devices, we should install security updates and upgrades as soon as they become available.
