After a brief skirmish with Huawei, Samsung once again takes the top spot among the world’s largest smartphone suppliers, according to data from IDC, Counterpoint and Canalys. At the same time, South Korea’s largest technology company posted its financial results, with its highest quarterly revenue figures, significantly boosted by increased smartphone demand.
It is worth noting that a few months ago, Huawei took the lead for the first time, but was unable to maintain it for more than a quarter. The main reason was that it benefitted from strong sales in China at a time when almost all markets around the world were operating limitedly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, according to Counterpoint data, Huawei’s shipments decreased by 7% while Samsung’s corresponding shipments increased by 47% in the last quarter.
It’s also interesting that Xiaomi appears in the third place for the first time in years, managing to outrun Apple, presenting an annual increase of the order of 46%. Apple, on the other hand, due to the delay in launching new models saw its shipments decrease by 7% in the quarter July-September. For the record, the next three places belong to BBK Oppo, Vivo, and Realme companies.
