The challenges of the new era are digital! Most businesses have followed the trend and the needs of the time and have intensified their digitalization efforts to meet the ever-increasing demand for electronic transactions. However, along with the development of digital media, the threats of electronic fraud have increased, which even appear in new forms.
The most common modern forms of fraud that threaten internet users are the following:
- This is called “email phishing” and it is a “fishing” electronic message that is sent to the user by email. It can also appear through malicious software – trojan / malware, which is installed after visiting or shopping in illegal forums.
- A common form of scam is related to mobile phone companies. The perpetrators pretend to be subscribers in order to convince companies to provide them with a new SIM card in replacement of the old one using personal data they have stolen from electronic transactions.
To protect citizens, authorities and businesses have given the following guidelines.
If you notice unusual activity on your mobile phone, e.g. if the signal is suddenly lost or if it stops working without other cause, immediately contact your mobile provider to confirm that your SIM has not been replaced.
Do not enter your personal information on unknown or untrusted websites and be particularly cautious on sites that request e-banking usernames and passwords, as your bank will never ask you for such. Finally, frequently check the activity of your bank account and immediately inform your bank if you notice any suspicious transaction.
