Apple announced the new updated iMac which is expected to be released within 2020. iMac fans don’t have to wait much to see the new improved features of the computers, most of which concern the 27-inch iMac, but also the iMac and iMac Pro 21.5 inch.
Among the improvements is the upgrade of the 10th generation Intel processors. Additionally, there are four available CPU SKUs. The base model 27-inch iMac features a three-core Core i5 at 3.1GHz. Moreover, thanks to the Turbo mode it can reach up to 4.5GHz. The middle variant contains a Core i5 (three-core) running at 3.3GHz which can boost the Turbo feature up to 4.8GHz. The high-spec model features a Core i7 (cores) at 3.8GHz, which can reach up to 5.0GHz. Both the mid-range and the high-end model can also be customized with a 3.6GHz Core i9 (10 cores). Using the Turbo mode, it tops out at a speed of 5.0GHz!
The base and middle variant of the iMac also feature an AMD Radeon Pro 5300 with 4 GB GDDR6 VRAM, while the advanced model comes with the Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8 GB GDDR6. However, it can be configured with Radeon Pro 5700 with 8 GB GDDR6 or Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16 GB GDDR6.
From the upgrade of the iMac models, more options for memory and storage couldn’t be missed. In all three new models, we find DDR4 8 GB (2x4GB) 2666MHz memory, with the ability to set parameters up to a total of 128 GB in the four SO-DIMM slots which are now accessible by the user. As for storage space? It is entirely flash-based with 256 GB in the basic model, 512 GB in the middle with options for 1TB, or 2TB and 512GB, but with options for 1TB, 2TB, 4TB or 8TB in the premium version.
Simultaneously, Apple, to enhance the new storage space that relies on flash, included the T2 Security Chip in the 27-inch iMac which includes a storage controller for encrypting storage units and secure boot. Are you asking for even more? Apple equipped the new 27 ” imac with a 1080p camera for perfect picture in FaceTime conversations as well as an improved set of microphones. In addition, the ISP in the T2 chip allows Tone Mapping, Exposure Control and Face Detection in the new camera, while also cooperating with the speakers for variable EQ, higher fidelity, and deeper bass.
