The shares of Tik Tok soared in the last semester with Microsoft showing intense interest in acquiring it. In fact, both sides are in advanced negotiations. The President of the USA, Donald Trump, gave a 45-day deadline after a relevant conversation with the CEO of Microsft, which was deposited with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). This body is responsible for checking similar agreements for possible national security risks.
According to sources, if an agreement is not reached, the US authorities will ban the operation of the Chinese TikTok, as the American President has expressed his concern about the management of users’ personal data. In fact, for the same reason, he initially rejected the idea of an acquisition.
TikTok is especially popular with young people and already has 100 million users in the USA. If finally, Microsoft is successful in acquiring it, it will be able to compete on equal terms, with social media giants such as Facebook. It should be noted that the company had previously tried again to approach social media by approaching LinkedIn. According to the official announcement by Microsoft, negotiations with ByteDance will be completed by mid-September. If successful, Microsoft will control TikTok not only in the USA but also in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
