Smartphone manufacturers compete with each other for the creation of the best camera that will provide a significant advantage to their products. In recent years, significant upgrades have been made both in iOS with software optimization and in Android that have given us high-resolution cameras. Thus, it is possible to have a 12MP sensor in an iPhone with better performance than a 40MP sensor found in an Android.
After the recent release of the iPhone 12, its camera has been the focus of analysts. According to DxOMark, the new Apple smartphone scores 128 points, which ranks it in fifth place, quite behind the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro, but also behind the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra.
However, the new iPhone 12 gets a higher score than its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and is Apple’s best smartphone to date in terms of camera, with improved zoom and video. However, the zoom is still inferior to the first in this category because it has a telephoto lens with only 2x optical zoom.
One of its positive points is the autofocus system which can focus quickly and with high accuracy, as well as the picture preview which scored very high marks. As for the picture, the color performance is very good in indoor lighting, however it’s visible in outdoor pictures.
The video function has a dynamic range when HDR is active and offers a cinematic effect in high contrast scenes. In this case, the range of the photos remains better compared to that of the video.
