I lost my iPhone. What should I do if I didn’t activate Find My Device?

The Find my iPhone app can prove extremely useful in case of loss or theft of your iPhone or iPad, as it can track the exact geographical location of the device. But what if a user hasn’t activated it and loses their device, what are the steps they need to follow?

  1. First, remotely change the password of your Apple ID, to deny third party access to your data on iCloud, messages, and other applications.
  2. Change your passwords on apps you had on your phone or tablet, e.g., email, Facebook, or ebanking passwords.
  3. You should immediately report the loss or theft of your device to local law enforcement authorities. The authorities will then find the serial number of your device.
  4. Report the loss of your device to your mobile telecom service provider in order to deactivate your account and prevent third parties from making calls or sending messages from your phone number.
  5. Remove the lost device from your list of trusted devices
