The fingerprint recognition for unlocking an iPhone was first used in the iPhone 5s model in 2013. It was subsequently used in iPads and Macs until 2017, when it was replaced by face recognition in the iPhone X model.
Touch ID was a pioneering feature of Apple and it excited its fans when it was launched. Its replacement by Face ID was a natural evolution, with technological achievements developing rapidly and an ever-increasing need for larger screens. In fact, the prevailing opinion is that Apple replaced Touch ID and the Home Button in order to offer users an edge-to-edge screen without any intervening element.
A recent survey by SellCell.com showed a very interesting desire as many users stated that they wanted Touch ID to return to iPhones and would even like to see the iPhone 13 being released with this particular feature. The percentage of users who responded positively to the “grand return” reaches 21%.
Rumors suggest that Apple will reintroduce fingerprint recognition in the upcoming iPhone model without it being accompanied by the corresponding button. The feature will be incorporated at some point on the screen, not necessarily in the center of the bottom. The reintroduction of Touch ID does not mean the abolition of Face ID, on the contrary, the two features will co-exist on the device offering greater security.
