The FDA approved the Hearing Aid feature on AirPods Pro 2 a few weeks ago, and has now also approved sleep apnoea detection on Apple Watch.
This new feature is available on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10 and Ultra 2. Apple Watch Series 10 has been available since 20 September, while the feature is built into watchOS 11, which has been available since 17 September.
Detecting sleep apnoea requires sleep tracking data from ten nights over a period of 30 days. In addition to detecting sleep apnoea, the feature also provides information about other sleep disorders.
If Apple Watch detects signs of possible sleep apnoea, it will notify you to seek a formal medical diagnosis. Sleep apnoea causes shallow or interrupted breathing during sleep and can lead to insomnia, headaches, daytime sleepiness and other effects.
It is worth noting that Samsung already received FDA approval for its sleep apnoea detection feature on Galaxy Watch earlier this year.
