Apple’s iOS 16 is now available – Its key features

The much-anticipated iOS 16 has been available to the public for a few days now, delighting iPhone fans around the world!

Apple's revamped operating system offers users a unique experience. Among other things, it features new functions that let you edit and unsend messages, as well as a lock screen that can be fully customised to suit your needs and personal style.

Installation

Installing iOS 16 on your iPhone is quick and easy. All you need to do is go to «Settings» on your iPhone and then select «General». Next, select «Software Update». Bear in mind that it may take a few minutes for the update to appear, so be patient. 

What to try on your first day

Customise the lock screen to suit your needs! You can add widgets, choose custom fonts and colours, and apply different filters. You can also create several different lock screens and switch between them quickly and easily.

Apple has also added new wallpaper options for your phone to its revamped operating system. iOS 16 lets you create wallpapers using emoji characters, shuffled photos and custom colour gradients.

New iMessage features

iOS 16 also brings two much-anticipated features to iMessage:

the ability to unsend a message and to edit one. To edit or unsend an iMessage in iOS 16, simply press and hold the message after sending it.

You can unsend an iMessage for up to two minutes after sending it. Other iMessage users will be able to see that you have unsent a message, but they will not be able to see what it said.

Standout features

Based on all the beta versions Apple released over the summer, other standout features in iOS 16 include:

• Apple Pay in iOS 16 will support third-party browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox) for in-browser payments.
• New Memoji features
• Automatic completion of captchas
• Battery percentage displayed in the status bar
• Notifications moved to the bottom of the screen and displayed in a carousel format for easier management.
• The ability to select and copy individual objects from a photo, then paste them with a transparent background into any app you choose.
