A few days ago, Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with the powerful new Apple M1 processor, sparking excitement with its impressive speeds. Now there is even more good news, with the upcoming M1 iPad Pro exceeding all expectations. According to the first benchmarks, the iPad Pro 5th generation models will be incredibly fast. More specifically, according to MacRumors, the first Geekbench 5 results show the iPad Pro with the M1 processor scoring 1,700 in single-core performance and around 7,200 in multi-core performance. By comparison, the iPad Pro2020 with the A12Z processor scored 1,100 and 4,656.

To put these new results into perspective, we can simply compare them with the corresponding scores of other Apple devices:
- 16” MacBook Pro with Intel Core i9 processor: 6,819
- M1 Mac mini: 7,346
- iPad Air: 4,246
- M1 iPad Pro: 7,200
- A12Z iPad Pro: 4,656
- M1 MacBook Air: 7,580
It is clear that the M1 iPad Pro offers significantly better performance than the A12Z iPad Pro, while coming quite close to that of the M1 Macs. What is particularly impressive is that its processing power even surpasses that of the 16-inch MacBook Pro with Intel's i9 processor.
We should clarify here that the figures above are benchmark results; we will have the full picture in a few days once we see the official reviews. We will have a much clearer and more comprehensive view of iPadOS in June, following the official unveiling of iPadOS 15 at WWDC.
