Covid-19 has been a constant presence in our lives for roughly the past year and a half, and researchers have focused their efforts on fighting it, while technology is trying to support medicine in every way possible. Since the start of the pandemic, several studies have tried to determine whether wearables can detect the early stages of covid in patients. JAMA Network Open published an article reporting that wearables, such as the Apple Watch and Fitbit, can highlight data on the long-term effects of Covid-19 on the human body.
The data came from 37.000 participants who use Apple Watch, Fitbit or other wearables. Researchers collected and analysed data from the wearables and compared it with symptoms reported by users, aiming for greater accuracy in identifying Covid-19 cases.

The study concluded that 9 days after a person became infected with covid, their heart rate dropped, something not seen in patients with other illnesses. Their heart rate then increased and remained elevated for a considerable time. On average, it takes around 79 days for the heart rate to return to normal levels while at rest.
