The iPhone and iPad, as well as being essential communication tools, have largely replaced the camera. With next-generation cameras, they give us plenty of options for capturing important moments in our everyday lives. As a result, our phone's photo library contains plenty of high-resolution photos.
Large photos, however, can slow down your phone or be too big to send as attachments in emails and other apps. Many apps set limits on the size of photos you can upload or share. High-resolution photos also affect your device's storage space.
How can you send large photos easily and without restrictions while also freeing up more space on your iPhone or iPad? The solution comes in the form of an app. One free app you can download from the App Store is Compress Photos & Pictures, developed by iDB. The basic version is free, while downloading the Pro version lets you edit your photos without seeing adverts.
How to compress your photos on iPhone and iPad
Open the Compress Photos & Pictures app and use the settings to allow the app to access your photo library.
Select the PLUS symbol on the main screen. Then select the photos you want to compress and tap Next.
In the compression settings, adjust the quality and dimensions, then select Preview to see the differences before and after compression.
Finally, select Compress X photos. If you want to make any changes before compression, select Back (back).
The process takes a few seconds. Once it is complete, you can view details such as the new photo's size and how much space you have saved. The compressed image is saved automatically to your device. You can keep the photo in your iPhone or iPad Gallery or delete it. You can always keep your original photo.
