Apple recently announced that it has retested the batteries across the entire iPhone 15 range, concluding that they can deliver even better performance than initially expected. In its support document, the company notes that the batteries in the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are designed to retain at least 80% of their original capacity after 1.000 full charge cycles, representing a significant improvement over the 500 cycles specified for older iPhone models.
In comments to MacRumors, Apple said that its recent testing process for the iPhone 15 models involved charging and discharging the battery 1.000 times under specific conditions, without providing a detailed description of the process. It also highlighted the ongoing improvements it has made to battery components and the power management system, aiming for better performance and durability.
This development suggests that owners of the newer iPhone 15 models will be able to use their devices for longer before experiencing a significant reduction in maximum battery capacity, compared with previous models. Apple also said that it is assessing the battery lifespan of older iPhone models, suggesting that future comparisons will be based on the latest testing parameters.
Apple also points out that an iPhone's battery lifespan depends on various factors, such as how the device is used and charged. For users who want to check their iPhone's battery health, Apple provides guidance: simply open the Settings app, tap Battery and select Battery Health & Charging. On iPhone 15 models running the latest beta version of iOS 17.4, this section has been updated and is now simply called Battery Health, providing even more information about the battery's condition at a glance.
