For years, Apple led the way in how quickly it delivered each iOS update to its users, compared with the speed at which Android OS devices received updates. This meant iOS users could access new operating system features straight away, while also benefiting from fixes for security issues.
Indeed, Apple was often accused of effectively forcing its users to upgrade to the latest version without giving them the option to return to any of the previous versions. However, it seems this approach will not apply to iOS 15, as users who wish to stay on iOS 14 will be able to do so, while continuing to receive security updates.
Of course, there has not yet been any announcement about how often security updates will be delivered to users who choose to stay on iOS 14, or how frequently reminders to upgrade to iOS 15 might appear.
All that remains now is to see how much interest users show in iOS 15 and how many choose to stay on iOS 14, without access to the new features.
