iPhone 16 Pro: Official Unveiling with a Larger Display, Camera Control Button, AI and A18 Pro Chip

At the “It’s Glowtime” event, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 Pro, which comes with a larger display, a new Camera Control button and the upgraded A18 Pro chip.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 6,9-inch display with the thinnest bezels ever seen on an Apple device. The frame is made from titanium and comes in new colour options: darker black titanium, brighter white titanium, natural titanium and the new desert titanium.

These devices are powered by the A18 Pro chip, which is faster and more efficient than the standard A18 in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Built using second-generation 3 nm technology, the A18 Pro features a new 16-core Neural Engine and built-in support for Apple Intelligence features.

The new Camera Control button is a unique sapphire glass button dedicated exclusively to camera functions. A single click opens the camera app, while a second click takes a photo. Holding it down records video. It also supports touch gestures, distinguishing between a full press and a lighter touch. A light touch provides a clear preview of the image, while a double light touch brings up additional controls, which you can select with a swipe.

Camera Control also includes Visual Intelligence, which allows the iPhone to recognise information from its surroundings. For example, users can point the camera at a restaurant to get instant information or add events to their calendar.

With upgraded microphones, the iPhone 16 Pro supports Spatial Audio recording for more immersive sound when using AirPods or Apple Vision Pro. A new Audio Mix feature, powered by machine learning, identifies and separates background sounds. For example, "In-Frame Mix" isolates the voice of the person in front of the camera, while "Cinematic Mix" processes audio as it would sound in a film, with sounds coming from the foreground and ambient noise from the background. There are also improvements to Voice Memos, allowing users to add music to existing recordings.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 for the version with 128 GB of storage and will be available to pre-order on Friday, with an official release on 20 September.
