Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Limited but impressive camera changes

As technology enthusiasts eagerly await the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in the first quarter of 2024, leaks about the devices have already begun, as usual. With the Galaxy S23 being the company's first phone with a 200MP camera, reports suggest that Samsung will stick with this resolution for the next two years. A recent leak provides some details about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera lens, suggesting minor changes compared with its predecessor.

Camera upgrades: Well-known leaker Ice Universe posted that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature the 200MP HP2 main camera, continuing Samsung's high-resolution trend. It will be accompanied by a 12MP Sony IMX564 ultra-wide lens and a 10MP Sony IMX754 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. These cameras are similar to those in the Galaxy S23 Ultra's camera setup. So what changes are expected?

Periscope lens upgrade: The leaked information suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a 10MP periscope lens, the Sony IMX754+, offering an impressive 10x optical zoom. This appears to be the most significant camera upgrade for the upcoming premium smartphone, at least in terms of hardware. Most improvements are expected to focus on software and algorithms, primarily affecting the main camera.

Software improvements: While hardware upgrades are limited, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to bring significant improvements to software and algorithm performance to enhance overall camera performance. Samsung tends to use advanced computational photography techniques to deliver outstanding image quality, and we expect further improvements in this area.

The leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's lens offer an exciting glimpse into the upcoming premium smartphone's photographic capabilities. Although the main camera retains its impressive 200MP resolution, the addition of a periscope lens with 10x optical zoom promises a significant change. With software improvements, it is expected to deliver outstanding photographic capabilities.
