As expected, the coronavirus pandemic has also had a significant impact on the technology industry. With official events being cancelled one after another, the unveiling of new technological breakthroughs is being delayed, and the once palpable excitement about all things new is no longer quite so evident. Many manufacturing giants, including Google and Microsoft, held their conferences online, adapting their events to the new circumstances.
On 15 September, Apple held its now iconic new product launch. The Apple Event, entitled «Time Flies», took place online, hosted by the company's CEO, Tim Cook. The event saw the unveiling of the sixth-generation Apple Watch, the most advanced Apple has ever produced, as well as the new iPad Air 8th generation with the A12 Bionic processor.
What was missing from the online event? Why, Steve Jobs' signature phrase, of course: «one more thing», which until recently had heralded the unveiling of each new iPhone. The eagerly awaited iPhone 12, which will support 5G data speeds, was conspicuous by its absence, as coronavirus had pushed production back by several weeks. Apple's smartphone will most likely be unveiled a month later. Until then, all fans around the world can do is…be patient!
