Last year, Apple decided to take a different approach with the iPhone 14 range. Rather than follow the same strategy as with the iPhone 13 range, offering a smaller mini model, it opted to launch the iPhone 14 Plus, which had a larger screen than the entry-level iPhone.
In practice, the only major difference between the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 14 is the screen, which increases from 6.1 inches to 6.7. The market's initial response was, of course, lukewarm... to say the least, with Apple cutting production almost immediately. In fact, as recently reported, sales of the Plus model have caused serious concern at Apple, which is considering major changes with the next-generation iPhone 15 range.
The next moves from Apple
Taking this into account, alongside information from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who revealed in September that the iPhone 13 mini had outsold the iPhone 14 Plus, many believed Apple would return to its previous plan with an iPhone 15 mini. However, reliable reports indicate that, as things stand, Apple has no plans to release an iPhone 15 mini in 2023.
The company will most likely try to distinguish the Pro models more clearly from the standard iPhone models through their features and pricing. This means that anyone wanting an iPhone smaller than the entry-level 6.1-inch model will probably have to turn to the iPhone SE.
