Rumours about Apple's eagerly awaited gadget are gathering pace. According to recent information revealed by Mark Gurman, the new smartwatch is expected to launch with a new design and innovative specifications.
If the rumours are true, the Apple Watch Pro will be the first smartwatch to feature a different design since 2018, when the series 4 was released. According to Gurman's post, although the Apple Watch Pro will look quite different from the current rectangular shape, it will not be completely round or square. Its screen will also be 7% larger than those of the current models.
Gurman also added that the device will be much more durable and resistant to shocks and knocks, with a casing reinforced with titanium alloy. It is also rumoured to come equipped with an additional rubber crown.
Overall, the company seems to be turning its attention to extreme sports enthusiasts. This is evident not only in the rugged design, but also in the improved activity tracking and data processing capabilities, which will cover extreme sports for the first time, alongside the traditional sports we have seen so far. This particular feature could mean the device is aimed at just one segment of its customer base.

Although we do not yet know much about its health and fitness tracking features, we know for certain that the Apple Watch Pro will include a body temperature sensor, an apparently popular trend that Samsung is also adopting for the Galaxy Watch 5. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until 2025 for the much-discussed blood pressure sensor, and probably until the end of the decade for blood glucose monitoring.
We also expect to see changes to battery life. The device is said to last longer between charges, potentially exceeding 48 hours, thanks to its updated low-power mode.
Essentially, with its new smartwatch, Apple aims to cater to more demanding users and move into the premium product category alongside brands such as Garmin and Polar.
We will learn more when it is officially announced in September 2022.
