vivo's new foldable phones, the X Fold2 and X Flip, were announced on Thursday, 20 April. vivo's second-generation horizontally folding phone brings improvements across the board, with a redesigned hinge mechanism, the latest-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, new cameras and 120W wired charging.
The X Flip is vivo's first attempt at a clamshell foldable and features a large 3-inch external display, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and a 50MP main camera. Unfortunately, vivo did not share any details about a global launch.
vivo X Fold2
The X Fold2 features an 8,03-inch E6 AMOLED display with a resolution of 2160 × 1916 px and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel has a 4:3,55 aspect ratio and a new droplet-style hinge system that is lighter and more durable than the one used in last year's X Fold and X Fold+.
It also has a 6,53-inch external AMOLED display with a resolution of 2520 × 1080 px, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a more traditional 21:9 aspect ratio. Both panels feature ultrasonic fingerprint scanners and 16MP front-facing cameras in punch-hole cut-outs. In terms of dimensions, the X Fold2 is 1,5 millimetres thinner than its predecessor when folded and over 30 grams lighter.

The X Fold2 features a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP IMX866V main unit with OIS and Zeiss T* lens coating, a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 12MP 2x portrait lens that also offers up to 20x digital zoom.
The camera system is supported by vivo's in-house V2 imaging chip, which delivers improved HDR in photos and videos and better noise reduction. The X Fold2 can record video at up to 8K at 30 fps and features a Zeiss Cinematic mode.
The phone comes with Android 13 and OriginOS 3, which includes several enhancements for the large display. These include a taskbar for easy multitasking, a remote PC control feature and an adaptable user interface in certain apps when the hinge is propped at an angle. Power comes from a 4.800 mAh battery with 120 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging.
The vivo X Fold2 is available in two versions – a 12/256 GB model priced at 8.999 CNY (1.308 $) and a 12/512 GB version for 9.999 CNY (1.453 $).
vivo X Flip
The X Flip is vivo's first clamshell foldable phone and features a spacious 3-inch external AMOLED display that can be used for almost everything, from sending messages to navigating maps and using social media apps.
vivo is actively working with app developers to optimise their apps for the cover display, so users can complete most tasks without opening the internal display.
The main display is a 6,74-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also features a waterdrop-style hinge mechanism that should address the notorious crease found on most foldable displays.

The X Flip features a 32 MP front-facing camera and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Inside is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, supported by 12 GB RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. The camera setup features the same 50MP Sony IMX866V sensor with OIS as the X Fold2, alongside a 12MP ultrawide unit.
You can rest the phone flat on a table and adjust the hinge to your preferred position for hands-free selfies. You can also use the 50MP main camera for even better detail. There is a 4.400 mAh battery with 44 W fast charging, along with Origin OS3 based on Android 13.
The vivo X Flip starts at 5.999 CNY (872 $) for 12/256 GB and goes up to 6.699 CNY (973 $) for the 12/512 GB model.
