At its recent "Scary Fast" event, Apple unveiled the new 14" and 16" MacBook Pro models, available in several versions, all equipped with the groundbreaking M3 chips.
The base version is the 14" model with the M3 chip, which comes without the Touch Bar on the keyboard. This is the successor to the 13" MacBook Pro with the M1 chip, offering a larger and more expensive upgrade. The key internal upgrade is the new M3 chip, while on the outside, the M3 Pro and M3 Max versions now offer another new colour option, Space Black, which Apple says reduces fingerprint marks.
The new chipset range ushers in a new era of laptop battery life. Apple claims that the 16" MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip can deliver up to 22 hours of continuous use on a single charge. The 14" models have smaller batteries and therefore shorter battery life, while the M3 Max versions also offer shorter battery life due to their powerful GPUs. The updated, more affordable M3 MacBook Pro 14" represents the biggest improvement over its predecessor, replacing the thick bezels with a notch and bringing it into line with the larger laptops, with a Liquid Retina XDR display and support for the new AV1 decoding. The new MacBook models feature three Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI port, an SD card reader and a MagSafe charging port. The displays reportedly offer 600 nits of brightness, an increase of 20% compared with the previous models.
The base M3 MacBook Pro 14" starts at 1.599 $ with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage, with the 1 TB option costing an extra 200 $. The 14" version with the M3 Pro chip starts at 1.999 $ with 18 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage, rising to 2.399 $ for the 1 TB option with the 96W USB-C power adapter. The M3 Max version with 36 GB RAM and 1 TB of storage is priced at 3.199 $.
The MacBook Pro 16" starts at 2.499 $ with the M3 Pro chip, 18 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage, while the top-end version with M3 Max, 36 GB RAM and 1 TB of storage reaches 3.699 $.
