Apple, the largest tech giant in the US, seems to have fully understood that if it wants to continue operating in China, it will have to comply fully with the rules and avoid starting another battle. As part of its efforts to comply with the law, it has decided to remove thousands of mobile gaming apps from its App Store in China. Their removal will begin next month, because these games do not have government approval.
Since 2016, many Android app stores have been working with China's regulatory authorities, which require all games that users pay to download to undergo a review and obtain the relevant licence before being published.
Obtaining approval to publish a game on iOS is a very time-consuming process. Until now, developers have exploited this loophole by publishing their games while awaiting approval, but this will no longer be possible. Just a few months ago, Apple informed iOS developers that they must wait for their games to be approved, without, however, mentioning any penalties.
For now, the company has not made any official announcement on the matter.
