With iPhone Plus sales declining in recent years, Apple appears to be looking for a more appealing replacement for the Plus range. According to rumours circulating over the past year, the upcoming iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be even more expensive than the Pro Max range.
A report from DigiTimes states that the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a new OLED display, enabling an exceptionally thin design. Taiwanese company Novatek recently unveiled a new TDDI OLED panel, which combines the touch sensor and display driver into a single unit. This technology, known as TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration), could help reduce the device's thickness by a few millimetres.
Although this technology may not seem impressive at first glance, it could be crucial to designing thinner smartphones. DigiTimes reports that Apple may partner with Novatek to source these OLED panels next year for the iPhone 17 Slim, although there has been no official confirmation of the partnership.
The news outlet also speculates that Apple may test this technology in other devices, such as the Apple Watch or iPad, before incorporating it into iPhones.
As these are early rumours, the final product may have a different design and name. For example, a leak in July suggested that the iPhone 17 Slim would have only one rear camera, which seems odd given its rumoured high price.
