watchOS 10, a major upgrade for Apple Watch, was announced during WWDC 2023, marking a milestone in the functionality of Apple's smartwatches. This upgrade completely changes how users interact with their Apple Watch, bringing back widgets for easier viewing. Turning the Digital Crown displays a stack of widgets that users can scroll through to easily find information from all their apps. Standard Apple Watch apps, such as Weather, Home, Maps, Messages, Stocks and World Clock, have also been redesigned to provide information at a glance. Most third-party apps have also been updated to display information "at a glance".
watchOS 10 also includes new features, such as redesigned apps, new widget cards, additional watch faces, cycling and hiking features, and tools to support mental health. The upgrade offers a new design, simplified navigation and makes greater use of the display to present information that is easy to read. Smart Stack provides adaptive, context-aware information, while developers can update their apps using the new design language. Control Centre is accessible via the side button, and two new watch faces, Palette and Snoopy, bring vibrant colours and interactive animations. For cyclists, watchOS 10 introduces advanced metrics and features.
watchOS 10 is expected to be available in the autumn for Apple Watch Series 4 and later models. This upgrade brings many improvements and new features to the Apple Watch user experience.
Apple's improvements in watchOS 10 also extend to health, particularly users' mental health. With watchOS 10, users can log their mood in the dedicated Mindfulness app. This app collects data and assesses whether the user is experiencing excessive anxiety or is at risk of depression, through various quizzes and questions presented throughout the day.
In watchOS 10, all watch faces now display widgets in a Smart Stack, making them clearer and easier to read. In addition, two new watch faces are being added to watchOS 10. Palette displays the time with shifting colours, while Snoopy offers interactive experiences with the characters Snoopy and Woodstock.
